The Museu a Céu Aberto (Open-Air Museum) is located in Praça Dos Ex-Combatentes (Veterans’ Plaza) in the Patronato area of São Gonçalo. It was built in 1970 to honour the soldiers of São Gonçalo who had fought in the Second World War. It was refurbished during 2009 and reopened in January 2010. The work included restoring monuments, installing new lighting, seating and paving, and planting trees (source: Fotolog). The Plaza holds a number of museum artefacts from the War, including an M3 medium tank.
