M41 Walker Bulldog

The T41E1 with original pulsing relay turret control system was redesignated the M41. Serial numbers up to 1802, except 1419, 1466, 1474, 1482, 1528, 1532, 1533, 1535, 1537, 1548, 1550 and 1553. All examples have cast muzzle brake. Early examples had a turret with a high weld on the sides that ran in a straight line to the bottom of the turret bustle. On later turrets this weld ran along the bottom of the side plates and was then stepped up to reach the bustle at the rear. Tanks 1 to 1367 had no auxiliary engine muffler, but one was fitted on top of the right main engine muffler on tanks 1368 to 2289. All examples had mud flaps with square corners.

M41A1 Walker Bulldog

The T41E2 with Cadillac gun control system was redesignated the M41A1; smaller size allowed increased ammunition stowage. Serial numbers from 1803, plus 1419, 1466, 1474, 1482, 1528, 1532, 1533, 1535, 1537, 1548, 1550 and 1553. Early production examples have cast muzzle brake, later examples have T-shaped muzzle brake. All examples have the later turret shape. From tank 2290 an enlarged muffler for the auxiliary engine was mounted on the front right track guard. From vehicle 2593 the front and rear mud flaps were cut away at an angle.

M41A2 Walker Bulldog

The Continental AOS-895-3 engine was improved by the replacement of the carburettors by a fuel injection system, when it was redesignated AOS-895-5. Examples of the M41 so fitted were themselves redesignated M41A2; no external means of distinguishing modified vehicles is known.

M41A3 Walker Bulldog

Examples of the M4A1s fitted with the improved AOS-895-5 were redesignated M41A3.
