2: Le Vieux-Montmerrei, Saint-Christophe-le-Jajolet, Orne, Basse-Normandie, France (Current location)

This M4A2 is perhaps the most poignant memorial in Normandie. It is located near Le Vieux-Montmerrei, close to Montmerrei and Saint Christophe-le-Jajolet, just south of Argentan. It was disabled in its current location on 12 August 1944. It remains beside the road as a memorial to its dead crew, members of the Free French forces. Compared to when it was visited for the first edition it has been moved slightly and is now mounted on a low concrete plinth further in from the roadside.
The tank shows significant damage, including a hole through the rear of the turret, buckling of the hull armour, and missing rubber from the tracks; the implication is that following a penetration by an armour-piercing round the ammunition has detonated and the tank has caught fire.
